About Nolan Burgett

SIX MONTH POST-OP UPDATE

We are celebrating the sixth month mark!  Nolan's kidney function tests continue to be within normal range and show that is body is accepting his new kidney. He is now down from 14 daily medications to only 3:  2 anti-rejection meds and 1 blood pressure medication.  No more steroids!  This summer has been a time for us all to heal and reset. Nolan returned to the lacrosse field this summer, and even got back on his dirtbike, along with fishing and hanging out with friends.  We even did some college visits over the summer as he is now ready to think about his future. He is getting ready to begin his senior year of high school next week. Thank you all for your continued support- it has made this journey less difficult knowing that we are surrounded by love and encouragement!

TRANSPLANT DAY!!!

During the Super Bowl game, Nolan's parents received a call from the transplant coordinator at University Hospital. They had a young man on life support that was a good kidney match for Nolan. After deliberating the pros and cons of moving forward with a deceased donor versus waiting for a live donor, Nolan had no hesitation to pack up and head to the hospital. He underwent a successful kidney transplant surgery the following morning, February 6, 2017. The Burgetts are forever grateful to the family that provided this special gift for Nolan. Because of the young man's unselfish decision to be an organ donor, Nolan has been blessed with a new beginning.

Please continue to keep Nolan and his family in your thoughts and prayers. Nolan has a lengthy recovery ahead of him; however, he has proven that he is such a fighter and will definitely be back to his healthy self in a matter of no time. Thank you all for your outpouring of love and support - it has truly been amazing to see family, friends and strangers rally around Nolan!!  Please think about making a donation in honor of Nolan's successful kidney transplant - we are not yet there on covering his lifetime medical needs. (see photo album link for some pictures)

HISTORY: Right before starting his junior year, this photo was taken of Nolan. Only 2 weeks later, he was diagnosed with end stage renal failure. Nolan's kidneys are only functioning at 15%, resulting in the need for dialysis and causing him to lose 30 pounds. The faculty at Colorado's Children’s Hospital have recommended a life-saving kidney transplant.  He is fighting to stay healthy enough to attend school and is doing everything he can to maintain a 4.0 GPA. Nolan had aspirations of playing lacrosse in college. His passion for the sport is obvious as he makes it a point to be on the sidelines for the fall games.

With the associated cost of a transplant often exceeding $500,000, we are are unable to shoulder the entire financial burden. The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) is a national charity dedicated to organizing and guiding communities in raising funds throughout the transplant journey.  Volunteers, friends and family are raising funds for COTA in honor of Nolan Burgett.

COTA is a 501(c)3 organization. Gifts are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Furthermore, 100% of the donated gifts go directly to COTA in honor of Nolan for all transplant-related expenses.

Please keep Nolan in your thoughts and prayers. For those of you who wish to do a little more, we ask that you give a tax-deductible gift by clicking the DONATE ONLINE button.
